To manage offshore operations onboard the new Noordhoek Survey vessel.
1. Position within the organisation
Reports to the Project Manager
Communicates with the Project Manager, Captain and Client Representative
2. Objectives
To supervise the offshore project team with regards to the quality and efficiency of the work, health, safety and environment.
3. Tasks and responsibilities
The Party Chief has, amongst others, the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Realise survey projects by coordinating, controlling, executing and adjusting to ensure that projects are executed in an efficient manner.
- Supervises and manages the project team onboard
- Ensures that projects are executed according to Noordhoek procedures
- Advises the project manager on personnel and equipment requirements
- Supervises the equipment checks, calibrations, and all survey operations, ensuring that the work is carried out to the required technical specification.
- Liaison between vessel crew, project personnel and other persons involved in data acquisition
- Advises the project manager on the progress of the project, the quality of the data and all QHSE matters
- Undertakes workplace inspections and coordinates toolbox meetings
- Records extra work requirements and advises the Project Manager accordingly
- Coordinates and documents daily meetings and QHSE safety meetings
- Liaison with the client representative
- Monitors working methods and suggests improvements where applicable
- Produces and distributes Daily Progress Reports
4. Authorities
- Plans operations in a safe and efficient manner
- Directs survey operations and manages all offshore project personnel. Ensures that the project is conducted according to requirements of the project manager, within the limits of the quotation and project plan, and in cooperation with the client representative
- Stops the operation when data quality is of insufficient quality
- Stops the operations in the event of an unsafe situation
5. Profile
Ideally, for this position we are seeking a candidate qualified in Hydrography with a minimum of 3 years offshore survey experience. A suitable candidate will be willing and able to travel internationally and to work offshore on a regular rotation. Applicants should be able to coordinate offshore operations, have a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of marine survey, and be able to liaise with client representatives and marine crew.
6. Education and experience
- BSc in surveying or related subject
- At least 3 years offshore survey experience and good understanding of subsea operations
- Good written and spoken English
- Sea survival training and offshore medical
